Sponsor Saturday: Monaluna

I am, once again, thrilled to welcome Jennifer from Monaluna!  From the sound of things, Jennifer has been a very busy lady this fall, creating a new line and presenting it at Quilt Market.  Luckily, I was able to steal her for a few moments to answer some questions from me.

Me:  It sounds like you've been busy since the last time we've talked!  A new collection ready to come out and a trip to Quilt Market--fun times! Because we have to start somewhere, tell us a bit about Quilt Market first.

Jennifer:  Quilt Market is always a busy, chaotic but fun time for us! It’s a trade show that takes place in the spring and fall, and it’s basically a huge market where fabric, pattern and quilt vendors display their products for buyers – usually fabric stores and manufacturers. It’s primarily geared towards quilters and quilting fabric, and includes a display of gorgeous handmade quilts, but it does include a little bit of everything for the sewist.

For us, the challenge is always to put together a pretty, stylish and functional booth that shows off our fabrics well. It’s a challenge, because the space is only 10x10 feet, and all of the furnishings need to be shipped or bought on site, so we’re always looking for light-weight or collapsible furniture. I’m usually sewing like a madwoman to prepare samples and decorations from whatever collection we’re showing, but this year I got smart and outsourced a lot of the sewing, which made me a little less crazy.

Me: And now tell us a bit about your new collection, "Havana".

Jennifer:  Havana is our newest collection, and just arrived two weeks ago. It’s a vibrant, playful collection of GOTS-certified organic prints, including vintage cars and scooters, graphic florals and some nice blenders and geometrics for accents and quilting. There are 8 prints in two colorways – a warm red-pink-green palette and a turquoise-green palette. I’ve been enjoying packing up the boxes, because the prints coordinate well and it’s fun to see them packed up together.

Me:  I see you've restyled one of my very favorites--those Monaco "Scooters". And I'm already planning a more girlie, secret Christmas project--I just need to decide if I'm doing "blossoms" or "buttons".  Which print is your favorite of the bunch?

Jennifer:  Yes! Not only are the scooters included in a re-styled print, but I’m bringing back the original pink scooters and the pink birds from our original Monaco collection. Those prints were so popular, and I’ve had so many requests for them that I decided to bring them back. At first I thought it would be best to re-style so that they were a little different, but so many people still wanted the originals that I decided to include both versions.

Me:  And, perhaps, most importantly, when will this beautiful fabric be available at my fabric store? And from your online shop?

Jennifer:  Havana is available now! I have the new prints up on my website, and I’ve been shipping out orders to stores and online shops across the country these past couple of weeks. If you’d like to find shops that carry Monaluna fabrics, please check out the stockist page on our website at monaluna.com.

Jennifer is generously giving away a fat quarter bundle from Monaluna.  To win, please go visit Monaluna, and come back and tell me what your favorite print from the new Havana collection is.  I'll pick a winner on Wednesday, as usual.
