Slowly and surely, we are chipping away at our Summer Bucket List. We've been so busy lately that I've been incredibly glad that I sat down and made a big deal of writing down a few ideas at the beginning of the summer.
Today, for instance, we had no plans, but I wanted to do something that would be at least a little entertaining to Sweet Sister, who is staying with us this week. I glanced at the remaining items on our list, looked out at the unseasonably cool, gorgeous weather, and suggested to the big kids, "Canoe trip?"
Sweet Sister confessed that she had never been before, so we packed a picnic and headed to the lake to rent a boat.
We had to do a bit of campaigning to get the Kid in the boat, but after he watched Sweet Sister and I do a lap we got him on board. Sweet Husband paddled along in a kayak next to us, with the Kid waving and splashing towards him as we floated across the lake.
Just as our time was up, a little sailboat race was starting. We pulled out our cheese-and-cracker picnic, chased the Kid up and down the rocks, and watched the pretty boats sail by.
