Being a collector of Harry Potter books (UK early editions generally, but also foreign language copies of Philosopher's Stone) I often get asked, "How do you know what's the real thing?" I was thinking of writing a post on it, but today I discovered that the nice people of JKR's Army have already written a very through guide.
In addition to discussing how to tell if a book is a 1st edition, the guide also discusses how to recognize Jo's signature, as well as the signatures of the cast of the HP movies. I've never really gotten into collecting signed stuff, partly because it's more expensive, but also because I know that there are a lot of forgeries out there. But in the future if I decided to, this guide would be invaluable in telling the genuine from the frauds.
