For the Kid's "want" Christmas present, I decided it was time to put together a "tinker kit" for him. He talks about how much he loves the "tapping work" at school, and I thought this would be similar.
For those of you who don't live on Pinterest, a tinker kit is basically a box of kid-appropriate tools and random spare parts. I decided to keep the Kid's simple to start, with the idea that we could always add to it later--just a hand powered craft drill, a small hammer, some nails, and a few blocks of scrap wood.
He's still developing the dexterity to use the drill, and dada had to help start the nails, but he seemed to enjoy the process. I think the idea of having "grown-up tools" was pretty appealing. For the life of me, I can't remember what he said this first project was supposed to be--something for his trains?--but I'm looking forward to finding more of them.
