We spent part of last week at Sweet Husband's family's favorite camping spot, in Roaring River State Park in Missouri.
No cell service. Limited internet.
Just a river and a hatchery and some trails to hike. And a lot of trout.
We fished in the early mornings, hiked in the late mornings, and spent the hot part of the day in the river.
While we typically tent camp, this trip we opted for a cabin, which was actually nice with Little Miss still getting up occasionally at night.
The Kid was in heaven. He caught a fish--with help from Mama--the first day, and even tried a few bites of it for dinner that night.
(Little Miss tried fish too, but mostly she just loved gnawing on graham crackers.)
But my favorite thing was taking the Kid hiking. I can't say he didn't complain. And I can't say I wasn't afraid he was going to roll off the hills a few times. But, on the whole, it made my heart swell to watch him climb and scamper and get chances to be brave.
I love my creature comforts enough (read: lattes) that a few days of camping is usually enough, but those few days away are always so very nice. We came home a little smelly, but a lot refreshed and ready to take on the world again.
