A few weeks ago, I got an email from Cookie Cutter Kingdom, asking if I would like to try out one of their incredible multitude of cookie cutters.
They had a train. If I said no to that and the Kid ever found out, I'd probably get disowned. Or sent to a really scary nursing home, or somethin'. Yikes, right?
And besides, ever since Andrea posted a photo of her family's gingersnap-Nutella s'mores, I've been quietly craving one in the back of my mind. I saw no reason why we shouldn't do train shaped gingersnap s'mores, so--once our train cookie cutter arrived--I set to work making a batch of Martha's Honey-Spice Gingerbread cookies.
One, the cookies were worth it.
But, two, absolutely do not for one second try to ignore Martha's directions re: freezing the dough between every step. She's Martha Stewart; she knows her stuff.
Also, unless you have a whole summer camp to feed, half the recipe, then freeze half of the half to save for later.
Even with fiddly dough, though, the cookie cutter worked beautifully. We made a whole stack of clearly defined, little ginger engines.
Sadly, I couldn't get my hands on a jar of Nutella in time for the feast, but we suffered along with plain chocolate. It was hard, but we held in our tears. ;)
