From reading this blog, one might think we spend every summer weekend frolicking about, picking berries with friends. To that I would reply, "I wish!"
As it is, though, it has been lovely to spend these past few weekends picking our own desserts.
Oh, you want to know what we made with our strawberries? So glad you asked!
I reserved about one pound just for nibbling fresh around the house, and another pound went with the Kid to school for snack.
I used about three-quarters of a pound to make this jam (with an equal proportion of dried figs and sugar, and no I did not can it, I just made freezer jam), and then devoted the rest to this roasted, balsamic vinegar treatment.
If you happen to have also spent a recent day berry picking, I highly recommend that last one. The strawberries come out tasting like cooked marshmallows and they are incredible over a few scoops of good vanilla ice cream.
