This one time, I tried to make gingerbread that was structurally sound....and I ended up drinking wine with Sweet Husband as I tried not to cry and we scraped disgusting cookie goo from our bake sheets. True story.
I've done a little better under the tutelage of my Nice Sister-In-Law (although, she basically just makes the houses and we show up to decorate them, so I don't know if that counts), but I'm certainly not ready to fly solo.
So when Kiwi Crate asked if we wanted to try one of their holiday kits and I saw that one was a cardboard gingerbread house, I was like, "Oh thank the lord."
You might think that using cardboard would detract from the pleasure of the thing, but actually the Kid and I had a great time putting it together.
I made the pipe cleaner candy canes, he decorated the "gingerbread" people. He directed me where to put the snow on the roof, I did as I was told. And towards the end he concocted this fun story about the people who lived in the house and how they were going to have a snowball fight with the little white puffballs.
Good family fun, I tell you, no tears or wine required!
The gingerbread house is but one of many special holiday Kiwi Crates, so do go check the rest out. They're 50% off right now, too, so go pick up a couple for gifts or to tuck away for a snow day!
[Kiwi Crate sent us our gingerbread house for free so we could try it, and I am additionally a Kiwi Crate affiliate. But seriously, gingerbread house. No tears.]
