So Dinovember? Has been pretty amazing this year.
Last year, the Kid was sort of into it, but it was mostly just me having fun. This year he's been waking up every morning, itching to hurry downstairs because, "I wonder what my dinosaurs did last night?!"
(Once again, I'm posting these all on the Instagrams, but above is one of my favorites from last week, wherein the dinos kidnaped R2D2.)
I mentioned we were going to sneak some edu-ma-cation in with our dinosaurs this year, and that has been largely successful, too.
Along with some fun books and an ongoing map of where the bones of our dino-friends have been discovered, Sweet Husband and the Kid took advantage of a day off school last week and went to visit the fossils at the KU Natural History Museum.
And then this morning we dug up some fossils of our own. While there are lots of DIY "fossil dig" tutorials on the internets, I cheated and ordered a kit. The Kid needed a little help to get started, but the resulting skeleton snapped together easily and is relatively sturdy. (Little Miss enjoyed watching the show as she rubbed a cider donut all over her face.)
Next week the creators of Dinovember are going to be at our local toy store signing their new book, so I...er, um, I mean the Kid is really excited about that. I also think we'll try and catch The Good Dinosaur sometime over Thanksgiving, and I'm working on putting together some sort of dinosaur scavenger hunt to learn about how big they really were--i.e., find a bus as big as a brachiosaurus, etc.
As you can tell, Dinovember is plugging right along 'round our house.
