Hens'n'Chicks Exhibit New Behavior

Img_7559I've had a pot of hens'n'chicks by our gate for almost four years.  They don't really need water in the summer, they can sit out all winter--they're lovely plants.  But they really don't do anything.

Or so I thought.

When I got home yesterday, I noticed two of the bigger plants--I suppose I can call them the "hens"--are now growing up, rather than out.  As you can see from this picture, they've grown small, spiky towers.

Will they cover the house?  Eat one of the dogs?  Make flowers?

Stay tuned for updates on this breaking news.
