First and foremost--I've got garlic! Yay! It's even just about the right size and it smells good and everything!
As to the question of whether they're ready to harvest or not, that's a little harder. I don't think enough of the leaves have died back yet. "The Problem Solver" says: "When about half the foliage has changed color, the bulbs are ready to harvest...." My leaves are just barely starting to turn, but I'm worried that all the rain this year might cause the garlic to mature differently. The one I pulled up looks like the cloves are starting to split apart.
I think the best thing to do is just trust and wait a few more weeks, but that's hard for me to do. I'm so excited about having our own garlic--I can't help but be a nervous little mama!
