Love Quilt

For Shutter Sisters Love Thursday....

As we made a last minute dash to gather firework watching necessities last weekend, Nice Mom-In-Law pulled out this old quilt for the girlies to sit on.  I was so excited when I saw it; I thought it had been lost!

In our early dating days this quilt lived in the back of Sweet Husband's car, and was pulled out often for an impromptu picnic or chat or what-have-you.  (We lived in a small town, there wasn't much to do.)  It was basically the third party in our courtship, and it brought back so many good memories when I saw the bits of fabric.

The poor old quilt has definitely seen better days, though.  I asked Nice Mom-In-Law if I could have it to rework, and, of course, she said yes.  (I know.  I won the mother-in-law jackpot.  Don't hate me because she's wonderful.)  But then, the question became, how?

I've pulled it out several times this week, trying to think about how to cut to save as much of the fabric as possible...whether to add new fabric or not.  When I first saw it the other night I joked that, in all fitness, we should use it to wrap our first-born child.  And while said Nice Kid is very much still a hypothetical, I don't think there would be any harm in making a small-sized blanket....I think I might add some turquoise, at least for the border....but I think I'll only add new fabric to the body of the quilt if I absolutely have to....
