Every year at Labor Day our hometown has "Little Balkans Days", so titled because many of the original settlers in that part of Kansas were from the Balkans area of Europe. It's just a quaint little festival, probably similar to a million others held in a million other small towns. (But, of course, the fact that it's the one I grew up celebrating makes it more fun than all those others!)
There are polka bands, historical skits, train rides, a car show--I even won a loaf of hard crust bread. More pictures are here.
