Circle of Friends

After letting ourselves get distracted by other things for much too long, just under a year ago, Nice Friend and I decided to start a little knitting club.  There is no criteria for membership other than "people we think are fun"--at first, not even everyone could knit--and we meet weekly at a local coffee shop.  (Often bringing our own wine to supplement!)  The size of the group has varied, with no pressure to come when life gets too crazy.  All in all, it's just a cozy little group of fun girls--I can't tell you how much I look forward to it most weeks!

Sometime last winter, one member suggested we do a group project for charity.  We settled on the "Circle of Friends" blanket from Last Minute Knitted Gifts.

I think this is about the perfect project for a small group of friends.  The blanket takes two balls of yarn in each color, and the little squares are quick, so we had lots of getting together and chatting even outside our regular meetings to trade colors.  (And Sweet Husband, who works with several members, was a good spirit about being the "yarn mule" too--thanks baby!)  It's all in garter stitch, so even people who are just beginning to knit can play.  And it just has a charming symbolism--everyone does a row, and they all get sewn together in the end to wrap some little one in a whole "circle" of good vibes!
